CO. KILDARE

Get Your Heart Racing

Ireland’s love a air with

horses and horseracing is

known throughout the

world. It is possibly the one

sport where Ireland excels

to a point that we are the

envy of the rest of

the world.

Whether it is flat, jump or point-to-point

(amateur steeple racing based on

farmland), racing options in Ireland are

plentiful, and nowhere is that more

evident than in the east of the country.

With 26 courses around the country the

East oers 10 choices within

Louth,

Dublin, Kildare, Westmeath and Meath,

and while opinions vary over which

course is best, each has their own unique

appeal.

Co. Kildare

is revered as the home of

horseracing in Ireland due to its high

volume of successful trainers and jockeys

along with top racecourses

The Curragh

,

Punchestown

and

Naas

. If your trip to

Kildare

is going to be influenced by your

love of horses, then you must visit the

National Stud and Gardens

in Tully where

you can tour the grounds and meet the

living legends of Irish racing.

One very unique aspect of the Irish

horseracing scene is the annual Laytown

races in

Co. Meath

. This is the only Irish

racing event run on a beach under the

o„cial rules.

As the tide recedes in the morning a

temporary course is set up, along with

jockeys’ room, bars and restaurants to

accommodate crowds of up to a five

thousand people.

Whether you’re a seasoned punter or a

newcomer to the racing scene, it is

always an electric day out, that gives you

the perfect reason to don your best outfit

and scream yourself... horse.

You can’t beat a

day at the races
